Breadsticks with cheese and garlic made at home

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

1 ½ cups warm water (45°C/110°F)

2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

For the Topping:

2 cloves garlic, minced

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Dried oregano (optional), 1 teaspoon.

Dried basil (optional), 1 teaspoon.

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

Put sugar into a small bowl then dissolve yeast in it using hot water. Leave it for some five to ten minutes until it is frothy.

Take a big bowl where you will mix flour and salt thoroughly.

Make a hole on the middle part of your mixture of flour and pour in yeast mixture plus olive oil; keep stirring until dough starts coming together.

Go ahead to Knead dough until smooth(5-7 minutes) on lightly floured surface.

Put the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth and wait for it to rise in a warm place for about an hour or until its size doubles.

Shape the Breadsticks:

Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200°C).

Punch down the dough then transfer it onto a floured surface. Roll out as thin as roughly half an inch thick rectangle.

Cut into strips of around one inch wide. Preferably, you can make them shorter or longer depending on your desire.

Lay strips on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are separated by one inch each other.

Add the Toppings:

Mix together the butter that has been melted and minced garlic.

Brush over breadstick tops with garlic butter mixture.

Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese equally over breadsticks then also top with shredded mozzarella cheese.’

If desired add some dried oregano and basil and sprinkle freshly ground black pepper on top of it all

Bake:

Bake at 12-15 minutes under preheated oven or until bread sticks are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling or slightly browned

Remove from oven and allow them to cool for a while before serving

Hints for Success:

Use Warm Water: Your water should be warm but not hot such that it kills yeast. Optimum temperatures approximately stand at 110°F (45°C).

Massage Well: Correct way of kneading helps the bread sticks to be chewy through development of gluten.

No Cramming: Breadsticks need to be spread out in such a way that they bake evenly and become crispy.

Healthy Benefits:

Whole-wheat Flour: This can help increase fiber content and provide additional nutrients which are not present in all-purpose flour.

Cheese: It is rich in protein and calcium but caution should be taken when taking it because it contains high level of fats.

Garlic: Has antioxidant properties and can reduce inflammation as well.
