Here’s a simple and flavorful Dirty Rice with Ground Beef recipe, packed with Cajun spices and veggies. Dirty rice gets its name from the “dirty” look the rice gets from being cooked with meat, seasonings, and vegetables.
Dirty Rice with Ground Beef
INGREDIENTS:
1 lb ground beef
1 ½ cups long-grain white rice (uncooked)
3 cups beef broth or water (for rice)
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
2 celery stalks, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for more heat)
2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Fresh parsley (optional garnish)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Cook the Rice:
In a pot, cook the rice using beef broth (or water) according to package instructions. Set aside.
Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Break it up as it cooks.
Drain excess grease if necessary.
Add the Veggies:
Add oil or butter to the skillet (if needed), then sauté the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic until softened (about 5–7 minutes).
Season Everything:
Stir in paprika, thyme, Cajun seasoning, salt, black pepper, and cayenne. Cook for 1–2 more minutes to let the spices bloom.
Mix in the Rice:
Add the cooked rice to the skillet and stir well to combine. Let everything cook together for about 5 more minutes, so the flavors meld.
Garnish and Serve:
Top with chopped green onions and parsley, and serve hot.
